The Story of Wagone

It all started because of Covid-19 ! In 2020, like many of us, I saw all my summer travel plans canceled due to the pandemic. With flights off the table, traveling across Europe by train remained one of the few viable options. Until then, I hadn't been much of a train traveler (I've always loved flying, though I recognize it's not a sustainable way to travel and it should be reduced).

So, back to July 2020: With a good friend, we decided to buy the famous Interrail pass and we embarked on a month-long train adventure across Europe!

The convenience and countless possibilities of train travel blew my mind. Since that trip, I've been exploring Europe - and beyond - primarily by train and other sustainable modes of transportation whenever possible. However, I quickly realized how challenging it can be to organize a train journey, given the fragmented information across various European train companies. I spent a lot of time researching through blogs, social networks and books to organize my train adventures.

Four years later, I decided to create this website to share itineraries and help others plan their train journeys. My goal is to build a community of train travelers who can share their own routes, tips, and experiences.

Meet the Founder

Hello,

I'm Nathalie and I recently left my job at a big tech company to take on the challenge of builing this website. As you would have guessed, I'm a travel / adventure passionate. Since high school, I've seized every opportunity to explore new places — whether it was learning new languages abroad, volunteering, studying in foreign countries, or going on business trips. These experiences have taken me to over 70 countries and more than 350 cities.

As I was often traveling on a budget I learned to be creative and searched for the best deals to make my adventures last longer. Along the way, I realized that many travelers were struggling to find information about going from one place to another, resulting in missing out on great places or having to pay the highest fares for a train ticket. I made it my mission through this website to help more people travel — sustainably and affordably.

I believe that with the right amount of planning and knowledge, traveling can be accessible to the majority of us. I hope it is useful and I can only encourage you to go see the world by rail!
